Abstract: The studied territory has 595 km2 and includes 19 localities, the town of Urlați and 18 communes (Apostolache, Ariceştii Zeletin, Bălţeşti, Cărbuneşti, Chiojdeanca, Cislău, Gornet, Gornet Cricov, Iordăcheanu, Lapoş, Păcureţi, Podenii Noi, Predeal Sărari, Salcia, Sângeru, Surani, Şoimari, Tătaru) and overlaps with the Subcarpathians in Buzău and Prahova counties. The complexity of the environmental factors is reflected in the complexity of the soil cover. Based on the information provided by the Romanian Soil Map 1: 200.000 and field observations, 10 ecological groups of soils were identified. This grouping reflects their productive potential and the possibilities of use. The ecological groups of soils that have been identified are: chernozemics soils, soil with argic horizon/argic soils, soils with argic and eluvial horizon/luvic soils, fine textured soils, the brownish eutric soils, soils with edafic low volume, eroded soils, aluvial soils, soils strongly affected by moisture (humidity) excess, halomorphic soils. This analysis may be helpful in territorial planning.
