Abstract: Romania has numerous relief units which appeared and evolved in various conditions. During the successive stages from Proterozoic until Quaternary, they formed an unstable morpho-structuctural system within the Eastern European plate. Several rifts functioned here in Paleozoic and Mesozoic on several rifts, fossae in which the complex tectonic movements developed mountain ranges, post-tectonic depressions, volcanism, rich sedimentation during the transgression phases and intense erosion during the emersion phases, in different climatic conditions. The entire tectonic mechanism was part of the Eurasian and African plates dynamics, and also of the existing micro-plates of different epochs (the blocks of Moesia, Pannonia, Transylvania).
The major oro-structural units can be grouped according to their evolution and
landforms preserved in three groups (domains): the platform units, the Carpathian units; the transit units. Their characteristics and subunits are shown in a table.
Key words: Romania, relief, morpho-structures, paleogeomorphologic.
Cuvinte cheie: sistem geografic, macrogeomorfostructură, tectonică, paleogeografie, morfocronologie.
