Abstract. It is known that at the Paris Peace Conference (1919-1920), assimilated to a
congress of the world’s greatest specialists, geographers played an important role in drawing on
the political map of new Europe and its national states resulted from the disintegration of The
Austro-Hungarian Empire and the drawing of new borders. The most referred figure in these
sense, is the French geographer, Emmanuel de Martonne. However, although Romania did not
have acknowledged geographers neither part of delegation nor among the technical advisors,
their contribution was noteworthy. The purpose of the present study is to reveal the
contribution of Romanian geographers to the process of border drawing of the Romanian
modern state, their researches and findings serving as foundation for the Romanian delegation
at the Peace Conference.
