Romanian geography and the first Geography academic department in the country, at
the University of Bucharest (in 1900), Simion Mehedinţi – a figure at least as significant and
prominent in the field of geography as the French geographer Emmanuel de Martonne – was
not present at the Paris Peace Conference (1919-1920) neither as a delegate nor as an expert
advising on conference documents. Nevertheless, the study demonstrates Simion Mehedinti’s
contribution to the creation of the modern Romania with a significant share, triggering
situations and determining people who influenced the decision-making process at the Peace
Conference in Paris that judged the end of the First World War.
