Abstract. The presence of different functions within a human settlement is one of the most
characteristic feature of urban areas. As each historical era passes, human settlements
gain social-economic development, urban endownments diversify and human activities
concentrate in specific areas (functional areas); these changes are reflected in the urban
physiognomy through specific landscapes, according to human activities. Urban development
can be correlated with landscape dynamics: while some have disappeared, others, through
historical insertion, reflect the diverse integration of historical legacy within the new tendecies
of evolution and urban development in Rădăuți.
